Creating a healthy, sustainable and just food system in Hamilton
This vision is contained in “Food is First – A Food Charter For Hamilton”
The Charter is the result of consultations held in our community in November and December 2011. At the consultations we reviewed some existing Charters in other municipalities and used them as a base to propose some key messages in the Hamilton Charter. Attendees at the consultations also proposed actions that could be taken to implement improvements in Hamilton’s Food system.
As the work on the Food Charter evolves, we are looking for more community partners to follow up on the proposed actions.
Now we want more input. Please post your comments on one of these pages or write to us at hamiltonfoodcharter@gmail.com
THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HAS POSTED COMMENTS SO FAR. THERE HAS BEEN A LOT OF GREAT INPUT AND IDEAS. KEEP POSTING PLEASE. WE WILL BE REVIEWING AND SEEING HOW THEY CAN BE USED ALL TOGETHER.
Everyone in the Hamilton Community is encouraged to join in this conversation. Share this site with your contacts and ask what they can do to make this vision a reality.
I would like to see the charter stress healthy food choices and identify foods that contain “empty, or minimal nutritional value” ie: “junk food!”
Maybe if it is stated that way, people could make wiser choices.
